Mommy on trip: Traveling With A Newborn – Baby Winter Essentials

Some friends have been asking, what we had for our baby when we were traveling in winter.. In this post, I’d like to share our first winter travel experience 🙂 Our first trip after the birth of Aurélie was Walchensee, which is a natural lake south of Munich. At that time Aurélie just turned 8 weeks old. Winter striked in a full force at that time, but we didn’t just want to stay home nevertheless. As Clemens always said to me, „there is no such thing as bad weather.. there is merely bad clothing“.. Yeah, sometimes my German husband doesn’t really have the understanding for my indonesian warm blood 😀…

#domoreofwhatmakesyouhappy: Refurbishing my old hobby of photography.

I used to love photography. As I was about 16 years old, my father gave me his old Nikon SLR FM2 and I loved it very much. He let me take some photography classes and I was immersed in that hobby for a while. But then all the years have passed and I grew to forget about the pleasure of photography. I dabbled from time to time, with a lot of simple digital cameras (mainly owned by my father). But I never got the feeling of photography anymore, probably because I am usually too lazy to bring a camera with me whenever I travel. Instead I just use my iphone.…

#domoreofwhatmakesyouhappy: learning Spanish in Madrid, the heart of Spain.

Ever since I know Kerstin, one of my best friends who happens to come from Chile and speaks Spanish, I have been fascinated by the language. From what I have been experiencing, Spanish-speaking people are known to be very lovable, nice and also full of temperaments. I love listening to Spanish music (mainly pop, bachata and salsa songs). And I love listening my Spanish-speaking friends, simply because their conversations are ALWAYS full of emotions and movements 🙂 And so, speaking Spanish has been one of my dreams since the last couple of years. What I learned from my German-learning experience is: if I want to learn a new language, I need…

Nürnberg: the first impressions of our new home

In a blink.. suddenly it is the end of the year. All of the sudden, we have now spent almost 6 months in Nürnberg. I still can’t believe, that my husband and I have left Hannover for over 2 years already. I can’t believe that I actually HAD the heart of leaving Hannover. Well the capital of Niedersachsen will always take a big part of my heart. But I have to admit, that ever since I have been living in Nürnberg, I have grown to love this beautiful city more each day. The perfect size, the historical buildings and monuments, the rich history, the Lebkuchen, the relative vicinity to all of those…

Cologne – There is something special about you!

I have always been a fan of big cities. I love the vibe and the energy radiated, I love the modern infrastructure, people walking fast to their appointments with their coffee-to-go. I may not have lived in too big cities. I guess that the constant pressure and vibe would exhaust me at one point. That’s why I have always landed in middle-sized cities such as Hannover and now Nuremberg, with their 500.000 people and their rather relaxed personalities. But deep inside, I yearn for some excitement and adventures from time to time. Well.. Of all the big cities in Germany, I am a big fan of Berlin and Cologne. This time…

Our short winter getaway in Oberstdorf

The perks of living in Bavaria.. is the close distance to the beautiful nature and mountains! My husband and I, along with our two close friends decided to do a trip to the mountain in the mid of November. It was still autumn (well autumn with below zero temperatures..but still) and I was missing the fresh crisp air of the mountain. This time we decided to go to Oberstdorf. Oberstdorf is a small town, popular for skiing and hiking, especially among the Germans. It is located in Allgäu, a part of the bavarian Alps. There are some very nice locations to go to such as Breitachklamm, Nebelhorn and Freibergsee (a beautiful…

    The charming Denmark

It was a super spontaneous trip on a weekend. Although I had lived in the northern part of Germany for over 11 years (before we moved to Franconia), I hadn’t had any chance to visit this beautiful neighbouring country. Long story short my family and I were staying in Denmark for 2 nights, primarily in Odense. Why Odense and not Copenhagen? It was because of a conference, that my mother intended to attend to. I didn’t really reckon, what so interesting about Odense. But we had surprisingly a very nice stay in this city (which is even the third biggest city in Denmark, homing about 175.000 inhabitants). This town is…

    Hallstatt – the asian dream

Soo we finally ended up in Hallstatt, Austria! I must admit, that my wish of visiting this apparent idyllic austrian town had started through the Instagram-hype. And I suppose that a lot of beyond beautiful pictures of Hallstatt might just be taken from east Asians, who seem to adore this town😊 This time of the year seems to be very high seasonal and we got one room in the one hotel I’d been dreaming about just in the last minutes before our trip began! We arrived in Hallstatt on Saturday noon. Since Hallstatt is pretty much a car-free town, all visitors with cars must park their cars in designated areas…

    Our short getaway in Austria

I have realized how badly I’ve treated my blog. So many writing intentions and yet no entry since MONTHS. And so here I am with an entry, in a long due summer vacation, which unfortunately only lasted for 4 days. Yes, because of the working baggage my husband and I have been dragging and due to thousands other reasons we haven’t had any proper vacation this summer. We did fly to Indonesia for 12 days by the beginning of 2016. But the definition of an Indonesian-vacation is rather different than the one of a German-one 😉 Of course, since I’ve been living in Germany and the majority of my family is still back in…

    Der Berg ruft!

Erlanger Bergkirchweih or the “Berch” as the Franconias say it. It is an annual beer festival, which has had a long history back and proves to be a MUST if you happen to live in the region of Franconia. What’s so special about this beer festival? I was at first a bit skeptical, since I haven’t been a fan of beer festivals, simply because I’m not a fan of drunk people, I can’t tolerate that much of alcohol and believe it or not, beer is such an extreme potent diuretics for me (it means that the time I’d spend in the toilet would be probably longer than the time I’d…
