#domoreofwhatmakesyouhappy: learning Spanish in Madrid, the heart of Spain.

Ever since I know Kerstin, one of my best friends who happens to come from Chile and speaks Spanish, I have been fascinated by the language. From what I have been experiencing, Spanish-speaking people are known to be very lovable, nice and also full of temperaments. I love listening to Spanish music (mainly pop, bachata and salsa songs). And I love listening my Spanish-speaking friends, simply because their conversations are ALWAYS full of emotions and movements 🙂 And so, speaking Spanish has been one of my dreams since the last couple of years. What I learned from my German-learning experience is: if I want to learn a new language, I need…

The pursuit of happiness (2): New Year’s Resolution: Do more of what makes you happy!

It was not easy making the phone calls to get a psychologist. My pride was hurt, deeply. At some point I tried to tell myself, even physicians get burn out and depressive phases. That is a common secret. And even if you think -as a physician- you know what you are having, there are times when you have to realize that you can’t treat yourself. But it is always easier saying than doing. Just in front of the chair in my therapist’s office, there is a big framed picture with this motto “DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY”. I then decided to write and make documentations about things that make me happy,…

The pursuit of happiness (1): burning out and crashing down.

This is a very personal story. I wasn’t sure to publish this note. But after some years of practicing medicine I realized, that there are so many physicians out there who might be in the same trouble.. It is no longer a secret, that health care jobs are associated with psychological problems and that there are far more cases than the published numbers. I would write this story in multiple parts, because otherwise it would be too long and boring. I do hope, that this story doesn’t end here.. Because I still believe, that as long as it not good, it is not the end yet. Writing has helped me…

A long long way home. In memoriam of our dearest grandmother.

I’m a friend of travelling. Usually I don’t really mind the 15 – 17 hours of flying home every once a while. I like sitting in a plane with a thousands of plans, what I would do back home with my family. In normal cases, this duration of travel is not a burden. Indonesia is not really a stone’s throw away from Germany. In the modern time with all the possibilities of communication one doesn’t really realize, what the long distances mean. Apart from my brother, who also lives in Germany with his wife, my other whole family is still in Indonesia, mainly scattered on the island of Java. About 20 years…

    Hallstatt – the asian dream

Soo we finally ended up in Hallstatt, Austria! I must admit, that my wish of visiting this apparent idyllic austrian town had started through the Instagram-hype. And I suppose that a lot of beyond beautiful pictures of Hallstatt might just be taken from east Asians, who seem to adore this town😊 This time of the year seems to be very high seasonal and we got one room in the one hotel I’d been dreaming about just in the last minutes before our trip began! We arrived in Hallstatt on Saturday noon. Since Hallstatt is pretty much a car-free town, all visitors with cars must park their cars in designated areas…

    Our short getaway in Austria

I have realized how badly I’ve treated my blog. So many writing intentions and yet no entry since MONTHS. And so here I am with an entry, in a long due summer vacation, which unfortunately only lasted for 4 days. Yes, because of the working baggage my husband and I have been dragging and due to thousands other reasons we haven’t had any proper vacation this summer. We did fly to Indonesia for 12 days by the beginning of 2016. But the definition of an Indonesian-vacation is rather different than the one of a German-one 😉 Of course, since I’ve been living in Germany and the majority of my family is still back in…

    Der Berg ruft!

Erlanger Bergkirchweih or the “Berch” as the Franconias say it. It is an annual beer festival, which has had a long history back and proves to be a MUST if you happen to live in the region of Franconia. What’s so special about this beer festival? I was at first a bit skeptical, since I haven’t been a fan of beer festivals, simply because I’m not a fan of drunk people, I can’t tolerate that much of alcohol and believe it or not, beer is such an extreme potent diuretics for me (it means that the time I’d spend in the toilet would be probably longer than the time I’d…

    The summer hype

In Germany we love the month of May. The days are long, the sun shines almost everyday, and the mood is up high. My text today is probably a little too clichĂ© and it doesn’t have to mirror the general Indonesian population. But at least, this is what I know from my youth time, as I was still living there. So everyone who’s not agreeing with me -> please do so! At first I didn’t really understand why everyone here gets so crazy about the sun. That is because I come from a tropical country. In Indonesia, we actually avoid the sun. Who wants to get tanned in Indonesia? Pretty…

Deutsche Sprache: eine Hassliebe aus meiner persönlichen Sicht

How to learn German in one year! I wish I could give some tips of how to learn German in 30 days.. but unfortunately I can’t.. Instead, I will share with you, how I’ve been struggling with this wonderful yet difficult language. This post is dedicated for all fellows, who are struggling to learn German. This time I’d write in German (CAVE: this text might contain many grammatical mistakes, please understand). Click here for the English text!

    We love the classics

If I think of classic, these would pop in my head: the colors black, beige and white. These colors are just a MUST. I can’t live without them (the question is: who can?). Once you have a pair of nice black pants, a black leather belt with a gold buckle, a classic slim-cut white blouse and a beige trench you are basically ready to go, anytime – anywhere. Who’s with me? the small black dress. I still am on the look for this one. My guess is, that no girl would have enough of it. I’m still dreaming of a black wrap dress from DvF, but it’s not so easy…
